The X-ray jets of Centaurus A and M87 are described in terms of the emission strength, location, and causative mechanisms. The jets were discovered through use of the Einstein Observatory. The Cen A jet was found to have a compact nuclear source from which it projects several arcminutes to the northeast. The possibilities of either thermal bremmstrahlung or synchrotron emissions producing the jet are discussed. M87, which holds the largest nearby concentration of intracluster gas, was observed to have two centers of X ray emission. Thermal and reverse Compton scattering models have been suggested for the processes within the M87 jet. Launch of the U.S.A.F. Air Force Advanced X ray Astrophysics Facility will provide a thirty-fold increase in sensitivity and seven times the angular resolution of the Einstein spacecraft.
