Optical spectrograms of the X-ray burster 1735-44 have been obtained on parts of four nights with 30-minute time resolution and 3 A-5 spectral resolution. SIT Vidicon data on two nights show variations in intensity and velocity of N III, C III, and He II which appear to execute a 2.86-hour cycle. Because only two cycles are observed and the S/N in the spectra is poor, it is not claimed that the behavior is necessarily periodic. Further observations are needed to verify the binary model implied if these variations repeat.
