The possibility that the observed infall velocity of the Local Group toward the Virgo Cluster arises from a tidal compression of the Virgo supercluster induced by the extended region of low density behind it is explored. The effects of the low density region on various approaches to determining the motion of the Local Group are discussed. It is shown that the method of comparing the local and global values of the Hubble constant could overestimate the infall velocity of the Local Group by 100 km/s. These considerations are applied to the infall velocity determined from Fornax and Grus cluster date by Aaronson et al. (1981). Part of the Virgo redshift is due to a motion of the supercluster toward the Local Group, lowering the antipodal velocity expectation.
