Current studies at the Central Scientific Research Institute of Geodesy, Aerial Photography, and Cartography (TsNIIGAiK) are examined, with particular attention given to regional and global investigations of the earth figure. It is noted that regional investigations of the earth figure have been conducted in recent years with the aim of determining at a new level of accuracy quasi-geoid heights above the Krasovskii ellipsoid and the components of plumbline deviations for use in the general adjustment of the Astronomical-Geodetic Network of the USSR. It is also noted that the acquisition of accurate satellite orbital and altimeter data concerning the earth's gravitational field has made it necessary to conduct new studies pertaining to the determination and numerical and analytical representation of the global gravitational field.
