The authors have found 51 diffuse objects which have the colors, magnitudes, shapes, and sizes of "classical" globular clusters in the vicinity of the nearby edge-on late-type spiral galaxy NGC 55. The search was made with plates taken in excellent seeing with the ESO 3.6 m telescope. Of the 51 candidates, approximately five seem to be globular clusters, based on their distribution around the galaxy and on the expected number of background elliptical galaxies masquerading as globulars. An additional 12 objects are bluer than "normal" and some may be similar to the "blue" globular clusters which occur in abundance in the Magellanic Clouds.
