The influence of Compton scattering on line radiation in astrophysical plasma physics has received considerable attention. The author shows how it is possible to include the effect of Compton scattering within the escape probability formalism for a laboratory plasma for which the excitation and ionisation is not in LTE. As an example of its potential use the author considers scattering of line radiation from Kr, doped in small concentration in a DT plasma, at high density and temperature relevant to an inertial confinement fusion implosion.
