A series of detailed calculations for the hydrodynamical models of SN II are performed with the aim of clarifying the outburst process and establishing the relationship between the main characteristics of SN II and the initial parameters of an exploding star. A comparison of these relations with the available observational data makes it possible to evaluate, in particular, the energy of explosion, the mass of the ejected envelope, and the stellar radius before explosion. The SN IIs with plateau-like light curves are thought to be accounted for by thermonuclear explosions of degenerate cores of red giant stars; they result in a total disruption of the star without any stellar remnant. SN IIs with linear light curves, however, having substantially different properties; in particular, they throw off considerably less massive envelopes. It is thought that these SN IIs signify the birth of collapsed objects, namely neutron stars (pulsars) or black holes.
