The lack of trustworthy evidence on the sun's oblateness value need not affect the accuracy of theories constructed for the motion of the inner planets. In particular, the positive experimental tests of general relativity will not be impaired if the solar oblateness is neglected. Limits are presently placed on the oblateness of a rigid sun rotating with a 25-day sidereal period.
