For many years solar astronomy was regarded as almost a separate discipline from the study of other stars. This was because information concerning the Sun was abundant whilst information about other stars was sparse. This made solar-stellar comparison difficult. Recently, because of new technologies and theoretical progress, we are placing the Sun in its stellar perspective. We are seeing the Sun as a star.
