Mechanisms for the meteorological control of the D-region are examined. In particular, an analysis is made of the effect of temperature and humidity on the effective recombination coefficient (ERC) and electron density (ED). It is shown that the interdiurnal variability of ED is much stronger in winter than in summer, and that this finding can be explained by the much stronger effect of temperature variations on ERC and ED in winter.
