Observations of the N = 1<-0 transition of the butadiynyl radical, C4H, in absorption against Cas A are reported. The inferred column density of C4H is 1012 - 1013 cm-2 in the Orion arm, and this is high enough to be of potential significance for the carriers of the diffuse interstellar bands.
