A sample of 123 elliptical galaxies is compiled from optically selected samples observed at 1.4 GHz with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope. The analysis of the sample properties confirms the correlation of the radio continuum emission with optical luminosity, gas content and roundness, but the authors find no indications for the influence of the environment. They discuss these results in relation with the hypothesis that accretion of gas onto the galaxy center is responsible for the radio emission.
