The time scale for galaxy evolution as induced by a spiral mode is evaluated and found to be of the order of 200 times the rotation period just beyond corotation, thus usually larger than the Hubble time. The very slow evolution indicated by the author's present results strengthens the application of a linear density wave theory to the study of spiral galaxies based on the hypothesis of quasi-stationary spiral structure.
