A quick overview of theoretical approaches to superluminal velocities is introduced together with the implications relative to energy of motion. Then the existence of experimental evidence for superluminal velocities in particle physics and astrophysics is discussed in detail. An original analysis of the SN1987A neutrino bursts shows that all the data taken by all the Earthly detectors can be consistent only with the detection of superluminal neutrinos mass eigenstates. In addition, the results of a new analysis of the LSD data taken in an interval of 6 hours around the SN1987A explosion proves that they are not consistent with statistical background noise, while they can be explained by the detection of superluminal neutrinos. Finally, since the analysis above give quantitative predictions for the neutrinos mass eigenstates, two types of experiments are proposed to definitively validate the theory and open the ground for engineering exploitation.
