Porous ceramics produced by reaction synthesis can be engineered to meet the strength and porosity requirements of a consumer, such as for the application of bone replacement materials. Control parameters such as ambient pressure, diluents, green density, gasifying agents, and gravity can be used to effect desired product properties to mimic those same properties of natural bone, enabling growth into the implant.
