Simultaneously measured wave and particle data by the GEOTAIL spacecraft for chorus emissions in the dayside outer magnetosphere are analyzed. While detailed spectral structures as well as propagation directions of chorus emissions are obtained from wave form observations by the Plasma Wave Instrument (PWI), linear growth rates of the emissions are directly computed from pitch-angle distributions of cyclotron resonant electrons measured every 0.375 sec by the Comprehensive Plasma Instrument (CPI). One-to-one comparisons between these wave and particle data show that the measured profiles of resonant electrons are likely to represent distribution functions after the pitch angle diffusion by the simultaneously observed chorus emissions, rather than those responsible for generating the emissions.
