The wavelength-dependent UV responsivity of the working channel of the Solar Ultraviolet Spectral Irradiance Monitor when entrance filters are used is found to have a logarithmic dependence on exposure to ultraviolet light. This dependence is found to be caused by the degradation in the two types of entrance filters, quartz and MgF2. Because entrance filters of two different material compositions have very similar behavior, the effect is attributed to ultraviolet-induced polymerization of hydrocarbon contaminants on filter surfaces rather than changes in bulk material properties.
