The observed elemental abundances in the universe and a description of the processes that led to them are the main focus of interest in nuclear astrophysics. Nucleosynthesis processes span across a wide range of astrophysical scenarios. The emphasis of my talk will be the discussion of nucleosynthesis processes involved in stellar explosions resulting in the production of nuclei far from stability. The r-process and rp-process both involve nuclear capture reactions of neutrons/protons, and the subsequent beta decay β^-/β^+ of nuclei at the very limits of stability. Nuclear masses or rather mass differences between nuclei far from stability are one of two most crucial determinants of the process path and therefore the resulting abundances. I will discuss some relevant mass models, mass measurements, and their impact on the r- and rp-processes.
