An investigation of groups of galaxies showed that there is a correlation between the morphological type of the brightest galaxy and the morphological types of the remaining population of the group. The distributions by morphological type of the brightest galaxies and of the remaining group members do not differ from each other. This means that the observed morphological types of both the brightest and the remaining group members cannot be explained by their interaction with their surroundings. They may be due to the initial conditions at the epoch of galaxy formation.
