The first-order Fermi acceleration processes acting at ultra-relativistic shock waves lead to the unique asymptotic spectral index σγ-->∞~2.2. Below, we discuss this result, differences of its various derivations and some problems with astrophysical applications of the discussed mechanism. We point out that spectra generated in realistic shocks with the Lorentz factor γ~10-100 can be much steeper than the ones obtained in the assymptotic limit of γ-->∞. Then we point out that γ considered for shocks in the GRB afterglow phases may be too low to allow for the limiting spectral index. One should rather expect formation of the spectrum steepening with time. .
