The HEGRA CT-System was used to search for TeV gamma-rays from Tycho's SNR over the 1997 and 1998 observing seasons, resulting in about 65 hours of useful data. No evidence for TeV gamma-rays has been found utilizing a `tight cut' analysis, and a 3σ upper limit (>1 TeV) of 5.8×10-13 ph cm-2 s-1 (3.3% Crab flux) was set. We discuss the implications of this result within the framework of Tycho firstly as a source of cosmic ray hadrons and also as a source of cosmic ray electrons. In the former case, our upper limit lies close to conservative values predicted by a well-accepted model of TeV gamma-ray production from the decay of neutral pions. In the latter case, by making use of observations of supposed non-thermal X-ray emission, a lower limit on the magnetic field within Tycho of about 30 μG is set. .
