Using high dispersion spectrograms the radial velocity variability of the "runaway" star HD 188209 is analyzed in detail. H, He I, Si IV and N III absorption lines show variable differential shifts which are caused by complex infra-atmospheric motions of pulsation-type which prevent to determine the object's duplicity. The variation amplitudes of different layers are significantly different, the radial velocity amplitudes measured from He I lines being less than those measured from other lines.
