Samples of spiral galaxies from two catalogues of 21-cm line observations and a catalog of near-infrared observations of nearby galaxies are combined with Infrared Astronomical Satellite data to study global properties of star formation. Both the blue and far-IR luminosities, indicators of star formations averaged over about 3 x 10 to the 9th and 10 to the 7th years, respectively, are found to have a linear dependence on the dynamic galaxy mass (MG). H luminosity is shown to have a steeper power law dependence on MG. Only a poor correlation is noted between the far-infrared luminosity and the mass of atomic hydrogen.
