Two broad components in the strongest UV emission lines of NGC 5548 are identified. The components respond differently to continuum changes. A normal broad (5000 km/sec) line is related to the UV flux, but the data-set only provides an upper limit for the possible lag. The very broad (10000 km/sec) line does not appear to be affected by continuum changes. The physical conditions in the BLR and VBLR seem to be widely different.
