The ^17O(p,γ)^18F reaction influences the production of the stable isotope ^17O and of the radionuclide ^18F in nova bursts. The current reaction rate uncertainty amounts to several orders of magnitude at the important stellar temperatures and is caused by a previously unobserved resonance at ˜ 180 keV. We report on the first direct observation of this particular resonance. Our preliminary findings yield a resonance strength of ωγ ˜ 2x10-6 eV. A discussion of the astrophysical implications will be presented.
