The ESA solar system and astronomy programs are summarized. The solar system program includes the Giotto Extended Mission; the Ulysses solar polar mission; the solar terrestrial science program; the Cassini Saturn/Titan probes; Vesta asteroid/comet mission; the comet nucleus sample return mission; and possibly a Mars soil sample return mission. The astronomy program includes IUE; HIPPARCOS; the Hubble Space Telescope; the Infrared Space Observatory; the X-ray Multi Mirror mission; the submillimeter spectroscopy mission; the Gamma Ray Astronomy with Spectrometry and Positioning mission; Lyman; and Quasat very long baseline interferometry mission.
