The ability to include gamma-ray polarization in the simulations of new detector designs is becoming increasingly important in high energy astrophysics. The GEANT3 simulation package developed at CERN has been widely used for many years. Unfortunately, the standard GEANT3 package does not have the ability to simulate the effects of X-ray and gamma-ray polarization. To satisfy this need, we have developed the GEANT Low-Energy Polarized Scattering (GLEPS) package (available on the web at http://nis-www.lanl.gov/ mkippen/actsim/glecs/). GLEPS is based on the GEANT Low-Energy Compton Scattering (GLECS) package (Kippen 2004) that provides more detailed physical models of the coherent (Rayleigh) and incoherent (Compton) photon scattering processes than those included in the standard GEANT3 distribution. The GLEPS package adds the additional capability to model the effects of photon polarization. In principle, GLEPS (like GLECS) can be used with practically any simulation program based on the GEANT3 system. Here we present details of the GLEPS software package and present results on the validation of the polarization physics.
