From published sources including the IRAS survey, a sample of 6 E and S0 galaxies with dust lanes and a comparative sample of 32 such galaxies without dust lanes were collected. No evidence was found that dusty lanes in ellipticals are sites of intensive star formation with strong IR emission. On the IR two-color diagram, ellipticals without dust lanes are located in the same region as normal galaxies, while some of those with dust lanes are located far from this region; these are often active galaxies.
