The authors investigate how the dynamical youth, indicated by the substructure recently established in the centre of the Coma cluster, may be compatible with the advanced evolution stage suggested by the observed luminosity segregation. It is verified that the latter does not result from a spurious effect such as field contamination. From high resolution contour density map of a sample of 1630 presumed Coma members, it is shown that this cluster exhibits 9 density peaks. The authors study the correlation between the positions of bright galaxies and of these density peaks, as well as Monte-Carlo simulations to establish the significance level of these subsystems. A composite sample is then constructed, consisting of velocities with respect to the brightest galaxy in each subsystem. Two Gaussian are needed of respective widths 300 and 1400 km s-1. The composite sample shows a strong dependence on magnitude of the velocity dispersion. The results are interpreted in terms of mass segregation instability inside the subclusters, the cluster as a whole being likely by far younger than its subsystems.
