An issue that seems to be increasingly affecting astronomers is that of being an astronomer while raising a family. At the Women In Astronomy II meeting, many people pointed to family issues as partly responsible for the disproportional loss of women from the profession. Statistics support anecdotal evidence that on average women astronomers tend to marry scientists (particularly other astronomers) while male astronomers tend to marry non-professionals. But the trends are changing and both men and women astronomers are facing substantial challenges of balancing their profession and their family. This talk presents approaches to family issues taken by individuals and institutions across the country and discusses the potential impact on the astronomy workforce.
