Recent investigations have shown that the EUV corona could have two primary components; one at relatively static high temperature ( 2 MK) and another dynamic at a low temperature (below 1 MK). These two coronal constituents are within the temperature ranges observed by the Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE), and are easily resolved using the spectral capabilities of the Coronal Diagnostic Spectrometer (CDS) on SoHO. We analyze an Active Region above the limb and determine emission measure scaling laws for the high temperature components. We also provide an estimate of the physical properties of the cool loops observed during the study. Through the use of the scaling laws we have developed a method to subtract the static coronal component from TRACE images. We then use the resultant TRACE 173 Å images to determine the changes in temperature and density in these loops as a function of time. This allows us to calculate the heating rate for the dynamic cool structures.
