Coronal streamers are thought to be associated with source regions of the slow solar wind. This is particularly evident during solar minimum when the heliospheric current sheet has its simplest configuration. We take advantage of the essentially unperturbed streamer belt surrounding the current sheet at solar minimum in order to probe the physical properties (electron densities, ion and proton temperatures, and ion outflow velocities) of 12 equatorial streamers using spectroscopic data from the Ultraviolet Coronagraph Spectrometer (UVCS) on SOHO. These data are useful for identifying regions of open magnetic field lines and understanding the acceleration of the slow solar wind.
