Bertin Technologies has designed, manufactured and delivered the Light Intensity Scanning System (LISS) required for measuring the relative intensity distribution of the solar beam in the ESA/ESTEC Large Space Simulator (LSS) - Clean Room Environment class level 100 000. It consists of a Scanning Frame with two motor driven mechanisms that moves a sensor in a plane perpendicular to the solar beam. The two motors are computer controlled to move the sensor in the Y and Z directions to ensure a complete intensity mapping. By moving the frame, it is possible to perform this intensity mapping in various planes of the beam. The system includes two subsystems: the frame made of one horizontal beam and one vertical beam (fixed to the horizontal beam) supporting the sensor (ESA provided). the console containing the sensor thermal regulation (ESA provided), a computer and associated software. The developed concept is then characterised by : an innovating and compact suspended design, an user-friendly MMI. The main results obtained during the acceptance tests are listed below : Easy and fast to use : Circular Scan within 1h10 - Rectangular Scan within 1h35
- Covered area 6.2x 6.2m2 (measurement every 0.05 m) This paper presents the main requirements to be met, describes the LISS design concept and summarises its performances.
