We ask for two relatively deep XMM observations of giant radio sources to detect inverse Compton (IC) from the radio lobes. Lobes of giant radio galaxies and quasars are the best candidates to be detected with XMM. They are very extended, and X-ray bright enough to perform good 0.2-10 keV spectral analysis. With the requested observations we plan to derive the spectrum of the emitting electrons and the energetics of the radio lobes and test the equipartition hypothesis. Statistical - preliminary - studies suggest that equipartition is violated in giant radio sources.
