We propose a follow-up XMM study of RXJ0806.3+1527, a double degenerate binary system with the shortest orbital period known (321 s). Chandra ACIS-S and XMM observations carried out in November 2001 and 2002 (simultaneously with VLT observations) strengthen the above interpretation and allow us to characterise its soft X-ray spectrum (a low-absorbed blackbody component with kT65eV). However, in both the Chandra and XMM observations we found evidences for spectral features which we identified as Fe XVII and He- and H-like O absorption edges. The requested XMM observation is mainly aimed at characterising these absorption features and searching for additional ones testifying to the presence of heavy chemical elements.
