Scientific paper
Recent observations revealed that several shell-like supernova remnants (SNRs) exhibit power-law spectra with no emission line which is considered to be synchrotron radiation from high energy electrons (larger than 1 TeV) accelerated by the Fermi process in the SNR shell. G156.2+5.7 is an old SNR (age about 10^4 year), but emits hard X-rays in addition to usual thin thermal emission (about 0.5 keV temperature). We propose to observe the thermal plasma and the hard X-ray tail component separately. Our primary objective is to determine whether or not the hard tail is synchrotron X-rays, and study the cosmic ray acceleration in this old SNR. This proposal is re-submitted from AO- 2 because it was not fulfilled due to high radiation.
