We propose to study a small sample of Galactic supernova remnants that we have recently discovered to be X-ray emitters. The sample consists of ejecta-dominated SNRs as well as ones with normal composition. The proposed XMM observations will be an order of magnitude deeper than existing X-ray data. The specific goals of the XMM study are to (1) measure accurate values for the elemental abundances, (2) determine the evolutionary state of the remnants from their X-ray emission properties (e.g., temperature, ionization timescale, flux), and (3) search for hard X-ray sources that might be pulsars or pulsar wind nebulae.
