We propose to observe the two merging galaxy groups that comprise Abell 2197, which optically mimics a rich, nearby (z0.03) cluster. While several cluster-cluster mergers have been studied in great detail, group-group mergers remain poorly understood. Combined with archival XMM-Newton and Chandra observations, these observations also will complete a survey of bound subsystems in the A2199 supercluster where A2197W and A2197E reside. These data will provide insights into the merger process on group scales and also reveal the mass distribution of subsystems within a supercluster.
