We propose two pointings covering the shell of the Galactic supernova remnant (SNR) W51C (G49.2-0.7). Located next to a large complex of H II regions and molecular gas, this remnant is thought to interact with a molecular cloud. Using the EPIC cameras as primary instruments, we will be able to study the SNR shock in detail and determine the conditions which caused the molecular shocks, indicated by emission from high velocity molecular gas as well as OH maser emission. Furthermore, the EPIC data will enable us to study the clumps of dense gas affected by the SNR blast wave and to define the nature of the hard emission which indicates either a hot plasma with temperatures above 1 keV or non-thermal emission from relativistic electrons.
