We propose for deep XMM imaging of the young high-mass stellar cluster NGC2362. This cluster is a template for early stellar evolution given its youth (5 Myr), its low (A0.3 mag) and non variable extinction, a negligible spread in the age of its members, and the absence of circumstellar disks. These unique characteristics make NGC2362 an ideal target for the study of X-ray emission from pre-main sequence (PMS) late-type stars in a high-mass star forming region (SFR). Our main goal is to use a combination of XMM+Chandra to derive the activity level of the majority of PMS late-type population of NGC2362, and compare it with that from 5 Myr old late-type stars in low-mass SFR's (Taurus, Chamaeleon). In this way we will understand if the environment influences the activity level of PMS late-type stars.
