The evolution of coronal activity in single solar-type stars older than the Hyades (600 Myr) is still poorly known. Beyond this age, the Sun is our only reference point with an accurate age determination; masses and ages of the many field stars observed, are not well calibrated. To bridge this huge gap, we propose a 100 ks XMM-Newton observation of the 1.7-Gyr old open cluster IC4651, which is extremely rich and well studied in the optical. This observation should more than double the number of solar-type stars we expect to detect in the forthcoming X-ray observations of NGC752, allowing us a proper comparison with the many field stars so far studied.
