We plan to use the high resolution available to the PC to investigate the central arcsecond of NGC 1566, a nearby Seyfert 1-2. This study is motivated by suggestions of connections between dense stealler clusters formed in starbursts and conventional active galactic nuclei. We shall image the nucleus of NGC 1566 in the UV, and in U, V and I in manner that will allow us to adequately remove scattered light from the central source and determine the structure of the extended emission in the surrounding regions. By examining the radial distribution of starlight from the nucleus we will be able to place astrophysically useful limits on the magnitude and dimensions of the putative central star cluster. In particular, we will determine if the origin of the 'big blue bump' is hot stars in the cluster rather than the central engine, look for extended UV emission from 'warmers', and test the 'starburst only' hypothesis of Terlevich and Melnick.
