New radial velocity (RV) measurements were obtained for the star beta Crt, which has been suspected to be a Sirius-like binary. Although a preliminary period analysis indicated a period as short as 8 days, no significant change of the RV over 8 nights could be detected. While this result is similar to what Smalley et al. (1997) found, our value of the mean RV is much smaller. We, therefore, conclude that the RV of beta Crt is indeed variable, maybe but not necessarily due to binarity, but so far no period can be determined. --- Based on observations obtained at the 2.0m Ritchey-Chretien-Coudé Telescope of the National Astronomical Observatory, Rozhen, Bulgaria.
