The recent IAU resolutions on reference systems were, by design, intended to have minimal impact on most astronomers. In particular, these IAU resolutions appear to have little or no effect on the way celestial coordinates are represented in FITS (Flexible Image Transport System) data files. There may, however, be a few specialized areas where the existing FITS conventions for recording coordinates will need to be modified or extended. We will discuss these areas and the possible impact that they may have on producers and users of FITS data files.
