Results of a study of optical variability of the object 5C 3.178 and the possible galaxy no. 792 in Richter's list of blue objects in the field of M 31 are reported. Over the past three decades, 5C 3.178 has exhibited a systematic decline in brightness at a rate of ~0.03^m^ per year, accompanied by irregular variations with an amplitude larger than 1.0^m^ on time scales of a few dozen days and a few years. Our observations have failed to confirm the variability of galaxy no. 792 discovered by Romano (1977).
