The upcoming National Virtual Observatory (NVO) will federate numerous astronomical surveys across the electromagnetic spectrum, such as SDSS, 2MASS, NVSS, and FIRST, to name but a few, into an entity that will provide significantly enhanced research capabilities. SDSS, an optical imaging and spectroscopic survey, will represent an NVO cornerstone because optical data are typically most revealing for the majority of sources. I will demonstrate this distinction using galaxies and quasars as examples, and will describe an optical-radio cross-correlation program centered around SDSS, that hints to the type of results that NVO will routinely enable.
