The [Fe/H] values accepted for RRab stars are based either on the calibration of the Delta S measurements of individual variables or on the accepted globular cluster metallicities (Zinn and West 1984, hereafter referred to as ZW). These two methods result in different metallicities which leads to confusion. Accurate spectroscopic observations published in recent years show that the ZW scale needs corrections. By the use of the new cluster abundances and the observations of the field RRab stars no discrepancy between the two calibrating method is found and a general Delta S rightarrow [Fe/H] transformation formula, valid simultaneously for both the field and the cluster variables, is given. The recent spectroscopic cluster abundances together with the Delta S measures of cluster variables transformed according to the unified calibration obtained define a new globular cluster metallicity scale.
