The results of a medium resolution near-infrared spectral survey of 18 post-AGB candidate stars are presented. Most of the stars have near-infrared hydrogen lines in absorption, which is normal for their spectral types. Three stars, HD 101584, HD 179821 and HD 170756 have the CO first overtone bands in emission; in two of these the emission is variable. It is suggested that the CO emission is the result of post-AGB mass loss. HD 52961 shows the rarely occurring 3.5μm emission feature and is only the fourth object in which this feature has been detected.
