The geomagnetic effects of solar-flare gamma radiation are examined. It is shown that flares accompanied by gamma-ray bursts produce an interlocking pattern in the geomagnetic field consisting of pulsed and gradual phases. In geomagnetic pulsations this effect is reflected in the form of the heteropolar pulse and P1-3Sfe. The effect appears to be due to ionization of the ionosphere by different spectral components of the flare radiation.
