Mishchenko's (1991, 1992) rigorous vector theory is presently used to study the coherent backscatter opposition effect, for the cases of light and radar scattering from atmosphereless solar system bodies. Attention is given to backscattering enhancement in different polarization components, as well as to the results of computer calculations for representative scattering models. The results obtained support Hapke's (1990) explanation of unusual radar characteristics in icy outer planet satellites.
